Meet Our Local NYC Rescue Partners
At The Pet Market, community is everything. We love our pet owners and their cats, dogs, turtles, birds, and every other companion who walks (or waddles) through our doors — and many of them started out as rescues. That's why we're proud to support local NYC rescue and adoption groups by giving them a safe, high-traffic place to hold their pet adoption events.
Most events set up right in front of our stores. When the weather turns — too hot, too cold, or too rainy — we can often make room inside so the animals, especially the kittens, stay comfortable and safe. Below are just some of the incredible rescue organizations we partner with across New York City. We love working with every one of them.
The Cat Collective
Founded in 2025, The Cat Collective is a dedicated team of energetic cat lovers who have already rescued and rehomed an amazing number of cats and kittens in need. Tireless and enthusiastic, they're focused on helping as many cats as they can accommodate. Most of their rescue work happens in The Bronx, Harlem, and Washington Heights, and they pitch in around surrounding neighborhoods whenever the need arises. Look for them at a Pet Market adoption event nearly every weekend this summer — we hope to keep collaborating with them for years to come.

Big Apple Cats
Also founded in early 2025, Big Apple Cats is run by Kelly and Cathy, two well-known rescuers on the Upper West Side. With more than 10 years of rescue experience between them, they've built a thriving adoption group that specializes in medical cases — successfully treating many cats and kittens who arrived in critical, life-threatening condition. While they focus on the Upper West Side, they help people across other neighborhoods who reach out about cats in crisis. They host adoption events at our stores about once a month, and they're always welcome here.

Catch Me if You Can
Those cat flyers you've spotted in the windows of our six Pet Market locations? Many are cats rescued by Catch Me if You Can. Founded in 2024 and run by Steph and a small team of volunteers, this Washington Heights–based group finds homes for roughly 70 cats and kittens each year, most of them rescued from The Bronx and The Heights. They take the time to get to know adopters so they can match each cat or kitten to the right family and lifestyle.

Pupstarz Rescue
Making new best friends since 2015, Pupstarz Rescue is a 501(c)(3) no-kill animal welfare organization dedicated to saving dogs and cats at high risk of euthanasia in public shelters, along with those suffering from abuse or neglect. In under a decade, they've rescued and rehabilitated more than 4,800 animals, giving each the care they need to find a loving forever home. Driven by compassion and a commitment to responsible pet ownership, the Pupstarz team welcomes adopters, fosters, and volunteers alike. Animal Lighthouse Rescue
Based right here in New York City, Animal Lighthouse Rescue (ALR) is a nonprofit devoted to rescuing and rehoming “satos” — the stray dogs of Puerto Rico. Working closely with El Faro de los Animales, a no-kill shelter in Humacao, ALR transports abandoned dogs to NYC, places them with a caring foster network, makes sure they're healthy and settled, and then finds each one their perfect “furever” home. Their satos have gone on to hike the trails of New Jersey and Connecticut, enjoy Sunday brunch on the Upper West Side, and even make national TV appearances. ACC — Animal Care Centers Mobile Adoption Events
Several times a year, ACC — the shelter for New York City — holds a mobile adoption event in front of one of our stores. ACC rescues tens of thousands of animals across all five boroughs, and we're honored to help them place cats and dogs when they visit. You can also adopt or volunteer at any of their locations. They do so much with limited resources, and the animals they care for are so deserving of a family and love.
